Word of God Online Presents the Living Bible and 2nd Timothy

Stir into flame the Strength and boldness that is in you

Second Timothy

From: Paul, Jesus Christ missionary, sent out by God to tell men and women everywhere about the eternal life he has promised them through faith in Jesus Christ.

To: Timothy, my dear son. May God the father and Jesus Christ our Lord shower you with his kindness, mercy and peace.

How I thank God for you, Timothy. I pray for you every day, and many times doing the long nights I begged my God to bless you richly. He is my father’s God, and mine, and my only purpose in life is to please him.

However long to see you again. How happy I would be, for I remember your tears as he left each other.

I know how much you trust the Lord, just as your mother, Eunice and your grandmother Lois do; and I feel sure you are still trusting him as much as ever.

This being so, I want to remind you to stir into flame the strength and boldness that is in you, that entered into you when I laid my hands upon your head and blessed you. for the Holy Spirit, God’s gift, does not want you to be afraid of people, but to be wise and strong, and to love them and enjoy being with them. If you will stir up this inner power, you will never be afraid to tell others about our Lord, or to let them know that I am your friend even though I am here in jail for Christ sake. You will be ready to suffer with me for the Lord, for he will give you strength and suffering.

It is he who saved us and chose us for his holy work, not because we deserved it but because that was his plan long before the world began – to show his love and kindness to us through Christ. And now he has made all this plane to us by the coming of our Savior Jesus Christ, who broke the power of death and showed us the way of everlasting life through trusting him. And God has chosen me to be his missionary, to preach to the Gentiles and teach them.

That is why I am suffering here in jail and I’m certainly not ashamed of it, for I know the one in whom I trust, and I am sure that he is able to safely guard all that I have given him until the day of his return.

Hold tightly to the pattern of truth I taught you, especially concerning the faith and love Christ Jesus offers you. Guard well the splendid, God-given ability you received as a gift from the Holy Spirit lives within you.

As you know, all the Christians who came here from Asia have deserted me; even Phygellus and Hermogenes are gone. May the Lord bless Onesiphorus and all his family, because he visited me and encouraged me often. His visits revived me like a breath of fresh air, and he was never ashamed of my being in jail. In fact, when he came to Rome he searched everywhere trying to find me, and finally did. May the Lord give him a special blessing at the day of Christ return. And you know better than I can tell you how much he helped me at Ephesus.

HOW TO BECOME Similar to Jesus.

We Christians have no veil over our faces; we can be mirrors that brightly reflect the glory of the Lord. 2 Corinthians 3:18 From the Living Bible

I suppose there is nearly no one that would refuse, if perhaps it had been put to him, the fact that the greatest attainable accomplishment a person can certainly make in this world is without a doubt likeness to The Lord Jesus Christ.

Walk Like JesusDefinitely nobody would deny that there is only reputation that individuals can conduct out of life with us, thinking that each of our possibility of good in virtually any long term future reality will surely vary with the resemblance of our identity compared to that connected with Jesus Christ.

We all confess this; but virtually each one of us bargains to him or her self some apology because of not being similar to Jesus, and also has hardly any kind of apparent truthfulness of intent to become comparable to Him. The key reason why, all of us say to our self, or all of us say in this approach, it really is not possible in a planet like ours is, to become perfectly holy.

Scripture verse of the day

acts 9:18
instantly it was as though scales fell from his eyes Paul could see, and was immediately baptized.

Scripture reading of the day From the Living Bible

acts 8:14 — 40
when the apostles back in Jerusalem heard that the people of Samaria had accepted God’s message, they send down Peter and John.

As soon as they arrived, they began praying for these new Christians to receive the Holy Spirit, for as yet he had not come upon any of them. For they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then Peter and John laid their hands upon these believers, and they received the Holy Spirit.

When Simon saw this — that the Holy Spirit was given when the apostles placed their hands upon people’s heads — he offered money to buy this power.

“Let me have this power to,” he exclaimed, “so that when I lay my hands on people, they will receive the Holy Spirit.”

But Peter replied, “your money perish with you for thinking God’s gift can be bought! You can have no part in this, for your heart is not right before God. Turn from this great wickedness and pray. Perhaps God will yet forgive your evil thoughts — for I can see that there is jealousy and sin in your heart.”

“Pray for me,” Simon exclaimed, “that these terrible things won’t happen to me.”

After testifying in preaching and Samaria, Peter and John returned to Jerusalem, stopping at several Samaritan villages along the way to preach the good news to them to.

But as for fill up, an angel of the Lord said to him, “go over to the road that runs from Jerusalem through the Gaza desert, arriving around noon.” So he did, and who should be coming down the road but the treasurer of the Ethiopia, and Eunuch of great authority under Candace the Queen. He had gone to Jerusalem to worship at the temple, and was now returning in his chariot, reading aloud from the book of the prophet Isaiah.

The Holy Spirit said Philip, “go over and walk along beside the chariot!”

Philip ran over and heard what he was reading and asked, “do you understand it?”

“Of course not!” The man replied. “How can I when there is no one to instruct me!” And he begged Philip to come up into the chariot can sit with him.

The passage of scripture he had been reading from was this:

“He was led as a sheet to the slaughter, and as a lamb is silent before this shearers,, so he opened not his mouth;

“In his humiliation, justice was denied him; and who can express the wickedness of the people of his generation? For his life is taken from the earth.”

The Enoch asked Philip, “was Isaiah talking about himself or someone else?”

So Philip began with the same Scripture and then used many others to tell him about Jesus.

As they rode along, they came to a small pool of water, and the Enunch said “look — water! Why can’t I be baptized?”

“You can,” Philip answered, “if you believe with all your heart.”

In the Enunch replied, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God.”

He stopped the chariot, and then went down into the water and Philip baptized him. And when they came up out of the water, the spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, in the Enoch never saw him again, but when on his way rejoicing.

Meanwhile, Philip discovered himself at Azotus. He preached the good news there and in every city along the way, as he traveled to Caesaria

Sam’s response

In the Scripture verse of the day we see Paul’s vision restored by Ananias. Can you imagine being Ananias? What would your reaction have been had God asked you to go and pray for the worst criminal who had killed everybody you knew?

This was pretty much what Ananias was asked to do, because up till this time Paul, whose name was Saul, had actually been slaughtering all the Christians and throwing them into jail as well.

This is all that Ananias knew of then Saul. But God has Ananias to go to Saul and in the Scripture Ananias does question God about this man. But God confirms that this is who he wants Ananias to go see an Ananias does so without question.

It’s not that we never can question God because we can! It’s okay to have questions… it’s okay to question God… I think we all have questions but sometimes these questions will only be answered by following through with faith action based on the word of God or from a word from God. In this case it was a word from God that moved Ananias and sent him to be a messenger from God and restore Saul’s site. Who then became a new creation in Christ known as Paul.

Scripture verse of the day Matthew 28:19
therefore go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the father and the son and of the Holy Spirit.

Scripture readings are from the living Bible

“brothers and fathers, listen to me as they offer my defense.” (When they heard him speaking in Hebrew, the silence was even greater.)

“I am a Jew,” he said, “born in Tarus, a city in Cilicia, but educated here in Jerusalem under Gamaliel, at whose feet I learned to follow our Jewish laws and customs very carefully. I became very anxious to honor God in everything I did, just as you have tried to do today. And I persecuted the Christians, hounding them to death, binding and delivering both men and women to prison. The high priest or any member of the Council can testify that this is so. For I ask them for letters to the Jewish leaders in Damascus, with instructions to let me bring any Christian I found to Jerusalem in chains to be punished.

“As I was on the road, nearing Damascus, suddenly about noon a very bright light from heaven shone around me. And I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?”

“Who is it speaking to me, sir?” I asked. And he replied, “I am Jesus of Nazareth, the one you are persecuting.” The men with me saw the light but didn’t understand what was said.

“And I said, what shall I do Lord? And the Lord told me, get up and go into Damascus and there you will be told what awaits you in the years ahead. I was blinded by the intense light, and had to be led into Damascus by my companions.

“There a man named Ananias, as godly a man as you could find for obeying the law, and well thought of by all the Jews of Damascus, came to me, and standing beside me said, “Brother Saul, receive your sight!” In that very hour I could see him.

“Then he told me, “the God of our fathers has chosen you to know his will and to see the Messiah and hear him speak. You are to take his message everywhere telling what you have seen and heard. And now, why delay? Go and be baptized, and be cleansed from your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.”

Sam’s response

have you had a Damascus i experience in your life?

Are you sharing the good news with others?

One of the main reasons God calls us is in some form or fashion he wants us to pass on through us the good news to other people.

To do this we have to commit our lives to God’s will and not are will. To be effective in the light of God’s eyes we must hunger for more of the word and less of the world.

Do you put God first in your life?

Walking the road of a Christian is a blessed have to be on, but it is also one that requires a certain development of perseverance and a continual seeking of what God has for you. It may not always be clear what God is doing or where you are headed, but it is important to for the word of God into your life every day and put God first before the rest of what ever is going on in your life.

This is the great challenge that we face on an ongoing basis. It does not matter what happened yesterday in the sense that you can recommit your time and efforts to the word of God starting today.

We must not give up…
