Philippians 3 from the living Bible

Whatever happens, dear friends, be glad in the Lord. I never get tired of telling you this and it is good for you to hear it again and again.

Watch out for those wicked men — dangerous dogs, I call them — who say you must be circumcised to be saved. For it isn’t the cutting of our bodies that makes us children of God; it is the worshiping him with our spirits. That is the only true circumcision. We Christians glory in what Jesus Christ has done for us and realize that we are helpless to save ourselves.

Yet if anyone ever had reason to hope that he could save himself, it would be I. If others could be saved by what they are, certainly I could!

For I went through the Jewish initiation ceremony when I was eight days old, having been born into a pure blooded Jewish home that was a branch of the old original Benjamin family. So I was a real Jew if there ever was one! What’s more, I was a member of the Pharisees, who demanded the strictest obedience to every Jewish law and custom. And Sincere? Yes, so much so that I greatly persecuted the church; and tried to obey every Jewish rule and regulation right down to the very last point.

But all these things that I once thought very worthwhile — now I have thrown them all away so that I can put my trust and hope in Christ alone. Yes everything else is worthless when compared with the priceless game of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. I have put aside all else counting it worth less than nothing, in order that I can have Christ, and become one with him, no longer counting on being saved by being good enough or by obeying God’s laws, but by trusting Christ to save me; for God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith — counting on Christ alone. Now I have given up everything else — I have found it to be the only way really to know Christ and to experience the mighty power that brought him back to life again and to find out what it means to suffer and to die with him.

So, whatever it takes, I will be one who lives in the newness of life of those who are alive from the dead.

I don’t mean to say that I am perfect. I haven’t learned all I should even yet, but I keep working towards that day when I will finally be all that Christ made me for and wants me to be.

No, dear brothers, I am still not all I should be but I am bringing all my energies to bear on this one thing; forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I strained to reach the end of the race and received the prize for which God is calling us up to heaven because of what Christ Jesus did for us.

I hope all of you who are mature Christians will see eye to eye with me on these things, and if you disagree on some point I believe God will make it plain to you — if you fully obey the truth you have.

Dear brothers, pattern your lives after mine and notice who else lives up to my example. For I have told you often before, and I say it again now with tears in my eyes, there are many who walk along the Christian road who are really enemies of the cross of Christ. Their future is eternal loss, for their God is the appetite: they are proud of what they should be ashamed of; and all they think about is this life here on earth.

But our homeland is in heaven, with our Savior of the Lord Jesus Christ in heaven; and we are looking forward to his return from their.

When he comes back he will take these dying bodies of ours and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same mighty power that he will use conquer all else everywhere.

Welcome to the word of God online

July 23, 2009

Scripture verse of the day: acts 19:11.

And God gave Paul the power to do unusual miracles.

Scripture reading of the day: Matthew 16:24 — 27; Luke 14:27 — 35.

Then Jesus said to his disciples, (if anyone wants to be a follower of mine, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For anyone who keeps his life for himself shall lose it; and anyone who loses his life for me shall find it again. What profit is there if you gain the whole world — and lose eternal life? What can be compared with the value of eternal life? For I, the son of man kind, shall come with my angels in the glory of my father and judge each person according to his deeds.

Luke 14:27 — 35 and no one can be my disciple, who does not carry his own cross and follow me.

But don’t begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first getting estimates, and then checking to see if he has enough money to pay the bills? Otherwise he might complete only the foundation before running out of funds. And then how everyone would laugh!

“‘See that fellow there?’ They would mock. He started that building and ran out of money before it was finished!’

“Or what King would ever dream of going to war without first sitting down with his counselors. In discussing whether his army of 10,000 strong enough to defeat the 20,000 men who are marching against him? If the decision is negative, then while the enemy troops are still far away, he will send the truce team to discuss terms of peace.

“So no one can become my disciple unless he first sits down and counts his blessings — and then renounces them all for me!

“What good is all that is lost in saltiness? Flavorless salt is fit for nothing — not even fertilizer. It is worthless and must be thrown out. Listen well, if you would understand my meaning.”

Scripture readings are from the Living  Bible.

Sam’s response.

Paul asked in acts 9:6 — what do you want me to do?

So what does God want us to do? God wants us to yield and yield and yield some more to his will. We must lay down what we want and pick up our cross and walk the path that Jesus is laid out for us.

Our faith is not obtained by struggling and working in longing. Jesus said in Matthew 11:28 — come to me, all you who are labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

I don’t think many of us really understand the cost or have counted this cost, and the price that Jesus paid on the cross. As Jesus pointed out in the above scripture he was talking about the counting the cost. If you’re going to construct a building. They would be silly to not fully understand the costs involved can only get the foundation done and run out of money.

There is a cost to our Christianity. This cost is giving up what we want in taking on what God wants us to do. If you will ask him . He will let you know what he wants from you. The number one thing that God wants is to be loved. One of the commandments is to love God with all your heart with all your mind and with all your soul and to love others as you love God.

Love is the leading indicator of who God is. For God so loved the world that he gave…

most likely we will not always know what God is up to and what he wants us to do, but if we are willing to listen and be still. We might just hear and be directed by the Holy Spirit on what God does want us to do.

Here at the word of God online, I have not been keeping up with my daily postings. Things have gotten busy, I also suffered an attack on this site, but mostly, I have just not put God first in my day.

There is nothing more important than finding out what God wants us to do. One of the ways we are going to find that is by spending time in his presence on a daily basis and letting him be our guide in yielding to what he wants us to do. If we are too busy to listen, if we are too busy in our work, then how are we supposed to know what God wants us to do.

It begins with a relationship and a priority of putting God first in our life. I think a lot of us Christians struggle with this on a day-to-day basis, and it is easy to get away from the word, and to forget to ask God to direct our life.

The awesome thing is is that we have an amazing God, who is full of forgiveness and love. We can always come back into the presence of God, and he will openly spread his arms and say welcome back.

Thank you God for being such a loving God. Thank you Lord for all that you have in store for me today., May you open my heart and my mind and my soul to all that you have and all the goodness that you’re ready to pour into my life today. I’m sorry that I have not been as attentive to you and have pushed the priority of reading my daily Scriptures every day onto the back burner of my life. God, there is nothing greater than the relationship I have with you. Help me to CQ daily, Lord can trust you with everything I have and that you are working everything for the good. Regardless of what I see or hear, I know you are a forgiving and loving God that loves people and desires to have a relationship with each and every one of us. Amen

Scripture verse of the day acts 5: 17 — 18

The high priest and his relatives and friends among the Sadducees reacted with violent jealousy and arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail

Scripture reading of the day acts five: 12 — 42

As soon as Anaïsis heard these words, he fell to the floor, dead. Everyone was terrified, and the younger men covered him with a sheet and took him out and buried him.

About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what happened. Peter asked her, “did you people sell your land for such and such a price?”

“Yes,” she replied, “we did.”

And Peter said, “how could you and your husband even think of doing a thing like this — conspiring together to test spirit of God’s ability to know what is going on? Just outside that door are the young men who bury your husband, and they will carry you out too.

Instantly she fell to the floor, get, and the young man came in and, seeing that she was dead, carried her out and buried her beside her husband. Tara Grant the entire church and all others who heard what had happened.

Meanwhile, the apostles were meeting regularly at the Temple in the area known as Solomons Hall, and they did many remarkable miracles among the people. The other believers didn’t dare join them, though, but all had the highest regard for them. And more and more believers were added to the Lord, crowds both of men and women. Six people were brought out into the streets on bed on mats  so that at least Peter’s shadow would fall across some of them as he went by. And crowds came in from the Jerusalem suburbs, bringing their sick folk  and those possessed by demons; and every one of them was healed.

The high priest and his relatives and friends among the Sadducee’s  reacted with violent jealousy and arrested the apostles, and put them in the public jail.

But an angel of the lord came at night, opened the gates of the jail and brought them out. Then he told them, “go over to the Temple and preach about this life!”

They arrived at the Temple about daybreak, and immediately began preaching. Later that morning the high priest and his retinue you arrived at the Temple, and, convening the Jewish Council and the entire Senate, they set for the apostles to be brought for trial. But when the police arrived at the jail, the man weren’t there!”

When the police Captain and the chief priests heard this, they were frantic, wondering what would happen next and where all this wouldn’t end. Then someone arrived with the news that the man they had jail were out in the Temple preaching to the people.

The police Captain went with his officers and arrested them (without violence, for they were afraid that people would kill them if they use force on the disciples) and brought them in before the council.

“Didn’t we tell you never again to preach about this Jesus?” The high Priest demanded. “And instead you have filled all of Jerusalem with your teaching and intend to bring the blame for this man’s death on us!”

But Peter and the apostles replied, “we must obey God rather than men. The God of our ancestors brought Jesus back to life again after you had killed him by hanging him on the cross. Then, with mighty power, God exalted him to be a prince and Savior, so that the people of Israel would have an opportunity for repentance, and for their sins to be forgiven. And we are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, who is given by God to all who obey him.”

At best, the council was furious, and decided to kill them. But one of their members, a Pharisee named,Gamaliel (an ex for our religious law and very popular with the people), stood up and requested that the apostles be sent outside the council chambers while he talked.

Then he addressed his colleagues as follows:

“Men of Israel, take care what you are planning to do with these men!

Some time ago there was that fellow Theudas, who pretended to be someone great. About 400 others joined him, but he was killed, and his followers were harmlessly dispersed.

“After him, at the time of the taxation, there was Judas of Galilee. He drew away some people as disciples, but he also died, and his followers scattered.

“And so my advice is, leave these men alone. If what they teach in do is merely on their own, it will soon be overthrown. But if it is of God, he will not be able to stop them, and you may find yourselves fighting even against God.”

The council accepted his advice, called in the apostles, had been beaten, and then told them never again to speak in the name of Jesus, and finally let them go. They left the council chamber rejoicing that God had come of them were the to suffer dishonor for his name. And every day, in the Temple and in the city, they continue to teach and preach that Jesus is the Messiah.

Sam’s response

In the above Scripture we see the apostles once again preaching the  good news to the people of Jerusalem. These amazing men of God went about healing many people. They went about preaching the good news and  carrying the message that Jesus had brought to earth.

We also see in the Scripture above massive persecution coming down upon the apostles. For preaching the good news they were thrown into jail, but, we see a miraculous release of them from jail at the same time. We can surely see God’s hand upon the apostles in their time of great persecution.

These men were about to be killed by the Pharisees, but a wise man stepped up and realize that God’s judgment would come against the Pharisees if they killed these men. So the apostles were released.

So how does this story in the Scripture apply to us today?

Today all over the world there is great persecution against Christians. Here in the U. S. there is also persecution, but nothing like other regions of the world suffer at this time for standing out the name of Jesus. But nonetheless persecution is here and it is growing. Godlessness is growing at a rapid rate all around us.

At the end times approach and the return of Jesus which has been promised to us nears, we know because it has been foretold in the Scriptures that increased persecution is going to come. We cannot look at this as doom and gloom, but is it time to stand. In the book of Ephesians from the living Bible, chapter 6, verse 13 it says “so use every piece of God’s armor to resist the enemy whenever he attacks, and when it is all over, you will still standing up.

Let’s read that again… so use every piece of God’s armor to resist the enemy whenever he attacks, and when it is all over, you will still be standing up.

This is a promise from God that if we are willing to put on the full armor that God has given us and told us what it is than we can walk forward in the midst of persecution and know that everything is going to be okay.

So when your enemy or persecution comes your way, remember to put on the full armor of God. Remember where we are heading, remember what our future looks like beyond our time here, and rejoice in the persecution as did the apostles when they were beaten and released all under the name of Jesus.
