Welcome to the word of God online

Scripture verse of the day

acts 9:18
instantly it was as though scales fell from his eyes Paul could see, and was immediately baptized.

Scripture reading of the day From the Living Bible

acts 8:14 — 40
when the apostles back in Jerusalem heard that the people of Samaria had accepted God’s message, they send down Peter and John.

As soon as they arrived, they began praying for these new Christians to receive the Holy Spirit, for as yet he had not come upon any of them. For they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then Peter and John laid their hands upon these believers, and they received the Holy Spirit.

When Simon saw this — that the Holy Spirit was given when the apostles placed their hands upon people’s heads — he offered money to buy this power.

“Let me have this power to,” he exclaimed, “so that when I lay my hands on people, they will receive the Holy Spirit.”

But Peter replied, “your money perish with you for thinking God’s gift can be bought! You can have no part in this, for your heart is not right before God. Turn from this great wickedness and pray. Perhaps God will yet forgive your evil thoughts — for I can see that there is jealousy and sin in your heart.”

“Pray for me,” Simon exclaimed, “that these terrible things won’t happen to me.”

After testifying in preaching and Samaria, Peter and John returned to Jerusalem, stopping at several Samaritan villages along the way to preach the good news to them to.

But as for fill up, an angel of the Lord said to him, “go over to the road that runs from Jerusalem through the Gaza desert, arriving around noon.” So he did, and who should be coming down the road but the treasurer of the Ethiopia, and Eunuch of great authority under Candace the Queen. He had gone to Jerusalem to worship at the temple, and was now returning in his chariot, reading aloud from the book of the prophet Isaiah.

The Holy Spirit said Philip, “go over and walk along beside the chariot!”

Philip ran over and heard what he was reading and asked, “do you understand it?”

“Of course not!” The man replied. “How can I when there is no one to instruct me!” And he begged Philip to come up into the chariot can sit with him.

The passage of scripture he had been reading from was this:

“He was led as a sheet to the slaughter, and as a lamb is silent before this shearers,, so he opened not his mouth;

“In his humiliation, justice was denied him; and who can express the wickedness of the people of his generation? For his life is taken from the earth.”

The Enoch asked Philip, “was Isaiah talking about himself or someone else?”

So Philip began with the same Scripture and then used many others to tell him about Jesus.

As they rode along, they came to a small pool of water, and the Enunch said “look — water! Why can’t I be baptized?”

“You can,” Philip answered, “if you believe with all your heart.”

In the Enunch replied, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God.”

He stopped the chariot, and then went down into the water and Philip baptized him. And when they came up out of the water, the spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, in the Enoch never saw him again, but when on his way rejoicing.

Meanwhile, Philip discovered himself at Azotus. He preached the good news there and in every city along the way, as he traveled to Caesaria

Sam’s response

In the Scripture verse of the day we see Paul’s vision restored by Ananias. Can you imagine being Ananias? What would your reaction have been had God asked you to go and pray for the worst criminal who had killed everybody you knew?

This was pretty much what Ananias was asked to do, because up till this time Paul, whose name was Saul, had actually been slaughtering all the Christians and throwing them into jail as well.

This is all that Ananias knew of then Saul. But God has Ananias to go to Saul and in the Scripture Ananias does question God about this man. But God confirms that this is who he wants Ananias to go see an Ananias does so without question.

It’s not that we never can question God because we can! It’s okay to have questions… it’s okay to question God… I think we all have questions but sometimes these questions will only be answered by following through with faith action based on the word of God or from a word from God. In this case it was a word from God that moved Ananias and sent him to be a messenger from God and restore Saul’s site. Who then became a new creation in Christ known as Paul.

Welcome to the word of God online

July 23, 2009

Scripture verse of the day: acts 19:11.

And God gave Paul the power to do unusual miracles.

Scripture reading of the day: Matthew 16:24 — 27; Luke 14:27 — 35.

Then Jesus said to his disciples, (if anyone wants to be a follower of mine, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For anyone who keeps his life for himself shall lose it; and anyone who loses his life for me shall find it again. What profit is there if you gain the whole world — and lose eternal life? What can be compared with the value of eternal life? For I, the son of man kind, shall come with my angels in the glory of my father and judge each person according to his deeds.

Luke 14:27 — 35 and no one can be my disciple, who does not carry his own cross and follow me.

But don’t begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first getting estimates, and then checking to see if he has enough money to pay the bills? Otherwise he might complete only the foundation before running out of funds. And then how everyone would laugh!

“‘See that fellow there?’ They would mock. He started that building and ran out of money before it was finished!’

“Or what King would ever dream of going to war without first sitting down with his counselors. In discussing whether his army of 10,000 strong enough to defeat the 20,000 men who are marching against him? If the decision is negative, then while the enemy troops are still far away, he will send the truce team to discuss terms of peace.

“So no one can become my disciple unless he first sits down and counts his blessings — and then renounces them all for me!

“What good is all that is lost in saltiness? Flavorless salt is fit for nothing — not even fertilizer. It is worthless and must be thrown out. Listen well, if you would understand my meaning.”

Scripture readings are from the Living  Bible.

Sam’s response.

Paul asked in acts 9:6 — what do you want me to do?

So what does God want us to do? God wants us to yield and yield and yield some more to his will. We must lay down what we want and pick up our cross and walk the path that Jesus is laid out for us.

Our faith is not obtained by struggling and working in longing. Jesus said in Matthew 11:28 — come to me, all you who are labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

I don’t think many of us really understand the cost or have counted this cost, and the price that Jesus paid on the cross. As Jesus pointed out in the above scripture he was talking about the counting the cost. If you’re going to construct a building. They would be silly to not fully understand the costs involved can only get the foundation done and run out of money.

There is a cost to our Christianity. This cost is giving up what we want in taking on what God wants us to do. If you will ask him . He will let you know what he wants from you. The number one thing that God wants is to be loved. One of the commandments is to love God with all your heart with all your mind and with all your soul and to love others as you love God.

Love is the leading indicator of who God is. For God so loved the world that he gave…

most likely we will not always know what God is up to and what he wants us to do, but if we are willing to listen and be still. We might just hear and be directed by the Holy Spirit on what God does want us to do.

Here at the word of God online, I have not been keeping up with my daily postings. Things have gotten busy, I also suffered an attack on this site, but mostly, I have just not put God first in my day.

There is nothing more important than finding out what God wants us to do. One of the ways we are going to find that is by spending time in his presence on a daily basis and letting him be our guide in yielding to what he wants us to do. If we are too busy to listen, if we are too busy in our work, then how are we supposed to know what God wants us to do.

It begins with a relationship and a priority of putting God first in our life. I think a lot of us Christians struggle with this on a day-to-day basis, and it is easy to get away from the word, and to forget to ask God to direct our life.

The awesome thing is is that we have an amazing God, who is full of forgiveness and love. We can always come back into the presence of God, and he will openly spread his arms and say welcome back.

Thank you God for being such a loving God. Thank you Lord for all that you have in store for me today., May you open my heart and my mind and my soul to all that you have and all the goodness that you’re ready to pour into my life today. I’m sorry that I have not been as attentive to you and have pushed the priority of reading my daily Scriptures every day onto the back burner of my life. God, there is nothing greater than the relationship I have with you. Help me to CQ daily, Lord can trust you with everything I have and that you are working everything for the good. Regardless of what I see or hear, I know you are a forgiving and loving God that loves people and desires to have a relationship with each and every one of us. Amen

cripture reading of the day.

Acts 6:8-15: 7:55-60

But one day some of the men from the Jewish cults of The Freedmen started and argument with him, and they were soon joined by Jews from Cyrene, Alexandria in Egypt, and the Turkis provinces of Cilicia, and Ausia. But none of them were able to stand against Stephen’s wisdom and spirit.

This accusation roused the crowds to fury against Stephen, and the Jewish leaders arrested him and brought him before the Council. The Lying witness testified again that Stephen was constantly spreading against the Temple and against the laws of Moses.

They declared. “We have heard him say that this fellow Jesus of Nazareth will destroy the Temple and throw out all of Moses’ laws. At this point everyone in the Council chamber saw Stephen’s faces become as radiant as an angel.

Acts 7-55-60 But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed steadily upward into heaven and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at God’s right hand. And he told them, “Look, I see the heavens opened and Jsus the Messiah standing beside God, at his right hand!”

Then they mobbed him, putting their hands over their ears, and drowning out his voice with their shouts, and dragged him out of the city o stone him. The official witness–the executioners—took off their coats and laid them at the feet of a young man named Paul.

And as the murderous stones came hurtling at him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit,” And he fell to his knees shouting, “Lord, don’t Charge them with this sin!” and with that, he died.

People often comment that the extraordinary was only in Biblical Times. But that is NOT what the Word of God says.

The same Spirit, the same God is alive today and working through people. He is looking for ordinary people who are willing to Believe…Dare to Believe in Christ. By having this kind of Faith that in the midst of persecution, or in the storms of life, that we can rise above it and stand.

So how do we reach a place where we can rise above and be useful to God?
If only we believe…

If only we believe that the Holy Spirit is in us and can work through us if we are willing. Wiling to trust, willing to look to God for our answers, willing to be used by God for the plan he has…not our own plan.

God…
I ask you to use me for your goodness and Glory…Holy Spirit, come and reside within each of us. Allow us to see that the same God who gave Stephen amazing wisdom is available today to each of us. Give us wisdom and faith to become extraordinary and have the heart of a servant.
