Today marks one of America’s most popular Holiday’s where we celebrate our Independence and Freedoms that we enjoy here in the United States. It is a day filled with barbecue’s, beaches and fun in the Sun. It is celebrated with a fireworks show at the end of the day. Beaches will be full, beverages will be plentiful and people will be enjoying their Freedom’s. It is filled with indulgence of self and family.
This man made freedom came as a result of the establishment of this Great Country back in 1776. The declaration of independence was signed by the founding fathers of our country.
Let’s look at some of the wording in our great declaration of Independence!
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
So today people celebrate their ability to pursue happiness. This is what people will be doing today, pursuing happiness and celebrating our independence.
Come, Tuesday, everyone will be back at work to ensure that we can continue to live the way we do here in the United States.
This freedom, is and was created by man. It was for freedom from British rule. We were fleeing oppression of the British Government. We were fleeing from other men.
Jesus Christ gives us freedom! Jesus Christ gives us a permanent independence day. Our independence from death! On that infamous day, Jesus took our bondage of this life, Sin, and bore it all upon himself so that you and I could be free. This pursuit of Jesus and God is permanent, where our Independence that we celebrate today is temporal.
Freedom from Sin is something we will not experience on this side of heaven. But it is our pursuit and we know, because the Bible tells us so, that there will be a day, for those who have given their lives to Christ, when Sin, bondage, and death will be no more! Now that is what I call Freedom.
So today, when you are celebrating your freedom. Take a moment to consider what Freedom really looks like. There is a greater freedom then freedom from other men!
