Scripture Verse of The Day
Matthew 5:23
“So if you are standing before the alter in the Temple, offering a sacrifice to God and suddenly remember that a friend has something against you, leave your sacrifice there beside the alter and go and apologize and be reconciled to him, and then come and offer your sacrifice to God.
Scripture reading of the Day
Matthew 5: 13-26
“You are the world’s seasoning, make it tolerable. If you loose your flavor what will happen to the world? And you yourselves will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. You are the world’s light—a city of a hill, glowing in the night for all to see. Don’t hide your light! Let it shine for all; let your good deeds glow for all to see, so that they will praise your heavenly Father.
Don’t misunderstand why I have come–It isn’t to cancel the laws of Moses, and the warnings of the prophets. No, I came to fulfill them, and to make them all come true. With all the earnestness I have I say: Every law in the Book will continue until its purpose is achieved. And so If anyone breaks the least commandments, teaches others to, he shall be the least in the Kingdom of Heaven. But those who teach God’s Laws and obey them shall be great in the Kingdom of Heaven.
“But I warn you—unless you goodness is greater than that of the Pharisees and other Jewish leaders, you can’t get into the Kingdom of Heaven at all!
“Under the laws of Moses the rule was, ‘If you kill, you must die, But I have added to that rule, and tell you that if you are only angry, even in your own home you are in danger of judgment! If you call your friend an idiot, you are in danger of being brought before the court. And if you curse him, you are in danger of the fires of hell.
So if you are standing before the alter in the Temple, offering a sacrifice to God and suddenly remember that a friend has something against you, leave your sacrifice their beside the alter and go and apologize and be reconciled to him, and then come and offer your sacrifice to God. Come to terms quickly with your enemy before its too late and he drags you into courts and you are thrown into Debtor’s cell, for you will stay there until you have paid the last penny.
Sam’s Response
This Scripture clearly states that if we are to harbor resent or have something inside of us that needs to be resolved that we are to immediately take care of it.
We can block the blessings of God that he has for us by not resolving matters.
The one thing I really love about communion is that it gives all us sinners, (and we are all sinners) the opportunity to be cleansed and renewed. We have a loving God that is ready to forgive and forget are inequities if we will do our part and bring it to the Lord.
But it is clearly stated in this scripture that we can hinder our walk with the Lord if you hold onto grudges or we call people names. It is very apparent that many of us will call others idiots or other things. I catch myself doing this when I am driving and someone makes a bonehead move.
These things can be built up from our past and need to be resolved.
Are you being held back from what God has for you by harboring resent against another? Do you have people in your life who have “Done you wrong” and you resent them for it? Ask God to reveal this to you and he will. Take care of it and clear your heart and make way for Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
Sometimes people have alot of amends to make to others that they have done wrong. God will allow this to surface and typically I have found he will do it gently as well. Before coming to Christ I had lived in deep sin and had many people that I had mistreated including my own kids. God revealed this to me as I continued to walk a path for God.
I pray that he will reveal any part of your heart that needs to be touched.
Come before the Lord and Remember that Communion is the opportunity to not only fellow ship with the Lord, but an opportunity to be cleansed.
There is a wonderful place where you can go now and have communion online with the Lord.
Make Amends as you need to and keep the door to God open.
