Hebrews Chapter 13
continue to love each other with true brotherly love. Don’t forget to be kind to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it. Don’t forget about those in jail. Supper with them as though you were dare yourself. Share the sorrow of those being mistreated, for you know what they are going through.
Honor your marriage and its vows, and be pure; for God will surely punish all those who are immoral or commit adultery.
Stay away from the love of money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never never fail you or forsake you.” That is why we can say without any doubt or fear, “The Lord is my helper and I am not afraid of anything that mere man can do to me.”
Remember your leaders who have taught you the word of God. Think of all the good that has come from their lives, and tried to trust the Lord as they do.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. So do not be attracted by strange, new ideas. Your spiritual strength comes as a gift from God, not from ceremonial rules about eating certain foods – a method which, by the way, hasn’t helped those who have tried it!
We have an altar – the cross where Christ was sacrificed – where those who continue to seek salvation by obeying Jewish laws can never be helped. Under the system of Jewish laws the high priest brought the blood of the slain animals into the sanctuary as a sacrifice for sin, and then the bodies of the animals were burned outside the city. That is why Jesus suffered and died outside the city, Where his blood washed away our sins.
So let us go out to him beyond the city walls (that is, outside the interest of this world, being willing to be despised) to suffer with him there, bearing his shame. For this world is not our home; we are looking forward to our everlasting home in heaven.
With Jesus, help we will continually offer our sacrifices of praise to God by telling others of the glory of his name. Don’t forget to do good and to share what you have with those in need, for such sacrifices are very pleasing to him. Obey your spiritual leaders and be willing to do what they say. For their work is to watch over your souls, and God will judge them on how well they do this. Give them reason to report joyfully about you to the Lord and not was sorrow, for then you will suffer for it to. Pray for us, for our conscience is clear and we want to keep it that way. I especially need your prayers right now so that I can come back to you sooner.
And now may the God of peace, who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, equip you with all you need for doing his will. May he who became the great shepherd of the sheep by an everlasting agreement between God and you, signed with blood, produce and you through the power of Christ all that is pleasing to him. To him be the glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Brethren, please listen patiently to what I have said in this letter, for it is a short one area I want you to know that brother Timothy is now out of jail; if he comes here soon, I will come with him to see you. Give my greetings to all your leaders and all the other believers there. The Christians from Italy who are here with me send you their love. God’s grace be with you all.
Goodbye

Chapter 13 of Hebrews is a rich and instructional chapter in the Bible. There is much to talk about in this particular chapter, however I would like to focus on the verse that says “the Lord is my helper and I am not afraid of anything that mere man can do to me.”
We live in an era where anxiety is a very common theme. When living in the world we can look to many aspects of our lives and be very anxious about them. But as Christians we are not the focus on the troubles of this world. There are multiple references in the Bible that states have no fear… Do not be afraid… Do not be anxious about anything…
When growing and living in Christ we should be maturing to a level in our walk with the Lord where fear is exterminated. First off one of the greatest things we have to think on is the eternal life will we have waiting for us in Christ. This is the greatest piece of news in the gospel. When all the things of this world fadeaway, and the day comes when we go to be with our Lord and Savior, wonderful things are waiting for you and I.
Our time here on earth is but a blip or a dot in which we face all the things that this world has to offer at this time. It’s not easy and at times if we are to focus on our circumstances, then it could become quite easy to allow fear to permeate our lives. But that is not what the word of God says. We are not to walk in fear. If God is for us and who can be against us.
One of the elements of faith is believing what we do not see with our physical eyes. If we always walk with our eyes focused on what is happening in the natural realm, then you and I are going to have a difficult time to not let anxiety and fear keep us from God. We must realize in our walk with the Lord, that even when difficulties come our way, they are being used for the good and the glory of God. There is nothing to fear when you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and have chosen to believe that Jesus died on the cross and then rose again and is now seated at the right hand of God and he is beckoning you to become more like him.
I was listening to a sermon last night and one of the points that’s stood out to me was that the measure of our maturity in Christ can be measured by our level of dependence upon God. It is our recognition that our flesh is going to fail us. It is the recognition that independence and trying to do things on our own is never going to work. It is only when we surrender our lives, and accept Jesus as our helper, and know that he is willing and able to help if we call upon his name.
If you are in fear today, then write down the verse that is mentioned above and carry it around with you. Whenever you start to get anxious, or are getting fearful, read the Scripture, stand on it, and believe that God is for you. His love for you and interest in your life is greater than you know. He wants you to trust him and all situations that you come up against. He wants you to mature in Christ and depend upon him for everything in your life.
