Book of Hebrews From The Living Bible

book of hebrews bible studyStarting in Verse 4

Thus he became far greater than the angels, as proved by the fact that his name “Son of God”, which was passed on to him from his father, is far greater than the names and titles of the angels. For God never said to an angel, “You are my Son, and today I have given you the honor that goes with the name.” But God said it about Jesus. Another time he said, “I am his father and he is my Son.” And still another time—when his firstborn Son came to earth—God said, “Let all the angels of God worship him.”

God Speaks of his angels as messengers swift as the wind and as servants made of flaming fire; but of his Son he says, “Your kingdom, O God, will last forever and ever; its commands are always just and right.

You love right and hate wrong; so God, even your God, has poured out more gladness upon you than on anyone else.”

God also called him “Lord” when he said “Lord in the beginning you made the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will disappear into nothingness, but you will remain forever. They will become worn out like old clothes, and some day you will fold them up and replace them. But you yourself will never change, and your years will never end.”

And did God ever say to an angel, as he does to his Son, “Sit here beside me in honor until I crush all your enemies beneath your feet”?

No, for the angels are only spirit-messengers sent out to help and care for those who are to receive his salvation.

Response:

The Writer of Hebrews, whom interestingly enough, has never been defined liked the other books of the bible, is getting a very important point across here about Who Jesus is an his rightful place in not only OUR lives but in the eyes of God.

Also we can see in the above  passages many mentions of angels and separation between Jesus, The SON OF GOD, and the messengers of God, the angels.

One of the huge differences in the New testament is obviously the coming of Jesus, the Son of God, to the earth. One of the focal points of our Christian lives is understanding WHAT Jesus did and understanding the door that Jesus has opened that gives us access to God. Jesus is our mediator that bridges the Gap between us and God. When Christians pray, then end their prayers with “In Jesus’ name we pray”. This is NOT just some little cliché we say. It is an understanding that Jesus is our mediator. He came and took all your sin, and my sin, and bore it all, knowing that we were going to stumble and fall and sin was going to come into our lives.

In another version of the bible,  verse 9 goes like this, “You have loved justice and hated lawlessness; therefore God has anointed you, even your God, with the oil of exaltation above your fellows.”

We, as Christians must also love  Justice and hate lawlessness. If we are to draw closer to God, and to see favor in our lives, we must guard our walk from all lawlessness and the loves of this world, and instead Love God and follow the teachings of Jesus.

Ending Prayer:

Thank You God for Sending Your Son, Jesus Christ, to break the hold that sin has in this world and on our lives. You have given us a gift we can never repay by any types of works that we can do here. Help us to draw closer to you God and to fully understand the depth of Love you have for us through the Gift of Christ. Keep us today God from stumbling and help us to walk on this earth as Jesus did. Bring us clarity and understanding of your Word. Help us to Love You and your word more than anything that this world has to offer or try’s to tell us is important. Nothing is more important and valued then YOU, GOD. Teach us to make YOU, our highest priority in our lives. Press then deep into our souls and give us your wisdom as we interact with people today. Thank you God for giving us a vehicle that we can drive right into your temple and come to you with all our issues. You will never forsake us. You are always at the door ready to explode back into our lives when we turn from Sin and turn to you. Thank you for a love that this so wide and deep for us that you were willing to give up your Son and have him taken to the Cross to atone for all our mess-ups. Help us to NOT underestimate this love and give us a burning desire to know you better each and every day of our lives here on Earth. In Jesus’ name I pray this prayer. Amen
