The battle within

Roman 7:21 — Romans 8:1 from the living Bible

It seems to be a fact of life that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong.  I love to do God’s will so far as my new nature’s concern; but there is something else deep within me, in my lower nature, that is at war with my mind in wins the fight in makes me a slave to this sin that is still within me.  In my mind I want to be gods willing servant but instead I find myself still in slave to sin.

So you see how it is: my new life tells me to do right, but the old nature that is still inside me loves to send.  Oh, what a terrible predicament I am in!  Who will free me from my slavery to this deadly lower nature?  Thank God!  It has been done by Jesus Christ our Lord.  He has set me free

Romans eight — 1 so there is now no condemnation awaiting those who belong to Christ Jesus.

So often in life we try to battle the difficulties that we face on our own.  Typically the results are less than good.  There is a strong for us in the spirit realm that is constantly battling us, in drawing us away from what is right.  The Bible states that there is none righteous not one.

Just because we become Christians, does not mean that sin is not going to impact us.  Sin will continue to chase us until the final days of our return of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Again, there is a battle going on that is perpetual and seemingly never ending.

I call this… the battle within.

When we turn our lives over to Jesus Christ, there is almost an awakening, to know what is right and what is wrong.  It’s really quite unavoidable.  The Holy Spirit will quicken our insides and let us know when we are doing wrong.  Obviously, we have the choice to decide what we are going to do when the Holy Spirit prompts us or pricks us to let us know that we are heading on the wrong path.

Sin will continue to chase us down and sometimes we will lose.  But as it states in the above Scripture, we can thank god!  It has been done by Jesus Christ our Lord.  He has set me free!

The sin nature that comes upon us and pulls us down also wants to condemn us for what we have done and make us feel bad.  Not only do we have to deal with that condemnation from within, but more often than not we have to deal with condemnation from others who are not walking in the joy of the Lord and are filled with Christ.  They are quick to judge… they are quick to condemn us.

But we see in Romans 8:1 the most powerful pieces of Scripture in the Bible.  “So there is now no condemnation awaiting those who belong to Christ Jesus”

A major difference between Christians and non-Christians is how they deal with others around them who have committed a sin or done wrong in the eyes of God.  As explained above non-Christians will tend to be judgmental and condemning, whereas Christians understand the fallen nature that we live in and will embrace the person and encourage them.

This is not a small thing!

What good is Christ forgiveness and his willingness to take on all our sin, if we are not willing to forgive others in love them wherever they are at.  If we cannot forgive others and embrace them in their time of need and we are not walking the Christian walk.  Instead we are denying God the glory of who he is in us if we walk in the nature of this world, or as stated above the lower nature that is looking to drag us down and make us less in the eyes of God than whom God really says we are.

As a Christian we are to reflect the glory of the Lord in all we do, and in all the circumstances that face us on a daily basis.  How can we expect to win people to Christ if we are condemning others and judging others?
