Scripture verse of the day 2 Corinthians 3:7 — 8

Yet that old system of law that led to death began with such glory that people could not bear to look at Moses’s face. For as he gave them God’s law to obey, his face shone out with the very glory of God — though the brightness was already fading away. Shall we not expect far greater glory in these days when the Holy Spirit is giving life?

Six days later Jesus toook Peter, James and his brother John to the top of a high and lonely hill. And as they watched, his appearance changed so that his face shone like the sun and his clothing became dazzling white.

Suddenly Moses and Elijah appeared and were talking to him. Peter blurted out, “Sir, it’s wonderful that we can be here! If you want me to all make three shelters, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.”

But even as he said it, a bright cloud came over them, and a voice from the cloud said, “this is my beloved son, and I am wonderfully pleased with him. Obey him.”

At this the disciples fell face downward to the ground, terribly frightened. Jesus came over and touch them. “Get up,” he said, “don’t be afraid.”

And when they looked, only Jesus was with them.

As they were going down the mountain, Jesus commanded them not to tell anyone what they had seen until after he had risen from the dead.

His disciples asked, “why do the Jewish leaders insist Elijah must return before the Messiah comes?”

Jesus replied, “they are right. Elijah must come and set everything in order. And, in fact, he is already come, but he wasn’t recognized, and was badly mistreated by many. And I, the son of mankind, shall also suffer at their hands.”

Then the disciples realized he was speaking of John the Baptist.

Sam’s response

My response today is Scripture. Psalms 40:1-8 from the living Bible.

I waited patiently for God to help me; then he listened and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the bog in the mire, and set my feet on a hard, firm path steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, of praises to our God. Now many will hear the glorious things he did for me, and stand in awe before the lord, and put their trust in him. Many blessings are given to those who trust the Lord, and have no confidence in those who are proud, or who trust in idols.

Oh lord my God, many and many a time you have done great miracles for us, and we are ever in your thoughts. Who else can do such glorious things? No one else can be compared with you. There isn’t time to tell you of all your wonderful deeds.

It isn’t sacrifices and offerings you really want from your people. Burnt animals bring no special joy to your heart. But you have accepted the offer of my lifelong service. Then I said, “see, I have come, just as all the prophets foretold. And I delight to do your will, my God, for your law is written upon my heart!”

We must above all be holy. If we are to be in Christ and led by the Holy Spirit, then holiness is what we need to seek. For when we come to Christ our old selves are shed and given up, and we are born again of the spirit. When this happens we can no longer sin without conviction. Does not mean we will not sin, but it does mean that the old ways that we use the walk in can no longer be hidden in the shadows.

Seek holiness… put first God in your life daily… give God the first of everything… praise God daily… pray to God daily…

Allow God to come into your life and make the changes that need to be made. Listen to this new voice, the Holy Spirit, and allow the Holy Spirit to guide you in all things. Learn to trust this voice and to recognize it. The Holy Spirit will keep you from making the wrong decisions, the wrong turns, and walking the path that is unrighteous.
