Welcome to the word of God online for September 30, 2009

Scripture readings are from the living Bible

jesus2
Today we continue with the gospel of John in Chapter 3
After dark one night the Jewish religious leader named Nicodemus, a member of the sect of the Pharisees, came for an interview with Jesus. “Sir,” he said, “we all know that God has sent you to teach us. Your miracles are proof enough of this.”

Jesus replied, “with all the earnestness I possess I tell you this: unless you are born again, you can never get into the kingdom of God.”

Scripture reading of the day acts 9:1 — 9

But Paul, threatening with every breath and eager to destroy every Christian, went to the high priest in Jerusalem. He requested a letter addressed to synagogues in Damascus, requiring their cooperation and in the persecution of any believers he found there, both men and women, so that he could bring them in chains to Jerusalem.

As he was nearing Damascus on this mission, suddenly a brilliant light from heaven flashed down on him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, “Paul! Paul! Why are you persecuting me?)

“Who is speaking, Sir? Those quotes Paul asked.

In the voice replied, “I am Jesus, the one you are persecuting!

Now get up and go into the city and await my further instructions.”

The men with Paul stood speechless with surprise, for they heard the sound of someone’s voice but saw no one. As Paul picked himself up off the ground, he found that he was blind. He had to be led into Damascus and was there three days, blind, going without food and water all that time.

Sam’s response

there is much more to our walk with the Lord than just being saved. There is no question it is very precious that we are saved by the grace of God. But this is not all he has planned for you and I. Really the next step in our walk with the Lord is getting baptized in the name of the Holy Spirit. We see story after story in the Bible how after somebody has accepted Christ the next step of them is to be filled with the living waters of Christ through the Holy Spirit in baptism.

When Jesus walked is a man here on earth and was persecuted, he stated that he would send another after he left. He called it the comforter… which we know to be the Holy Spirit which is the third piece in the Trinity.

To be guided by the Lord in our daily walk we must have the Holy Spirit within us to guide us, to talk to us and to lead us in the direction that only points in one direction which is towards Christ.

If you have been saved but you have not been baptized, or you are baptized as a small child, I highly recommend that you rededicate your life to Christ and give baptized in the name of the Holy Spirit as soon as possible.

In Galatians 5:16 it says… I advise you to obey only the Holy Spirit’s instructions. He will tell you where to go and what to do, and then you won’t always be doing the wrong things your evil nature wants to do. For we naturally love to do evil things that are just the opposite of the things that the Holy Spirit tells us to do; and the good things we want to do when the spirit has his way with us are just the opposite of our natural desires. These two forces within us are constantly fighting each other to win the control over us in our wishes are never free from their pressures.

When you are guided by the Holy Spirit you need no longer force yourself to obey Jewish laws….

verse 22… but when the Holy Spirit controls our lives he will produce this kind of fruit and us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control;

verse 24… those who belong to Christ have nailed their natural evil desires to his cross and crucified them there. If we are living now by the Holy Spirit’s power let us follow the Holy Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. Then we won’t need to look for honor in popularity, which leads to jealousy and hard feelings.

Scripture verse of the day

acts 9:18
instantly it was as though scales fell from his eyes Paul could see, and was immediately baptized.

Scripture reading of the day From the Living Bible

acts 8:14 — 40
when the apostles back in Jerusalem heard that the people of Samaria had accepted God’s message, they send down Peter and John.

As soon as they arrived, they began praying for these new Christians to receive the Holy Spirit, for as yet he had not come upon any of them. For they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then Peter and John laid their hands upon these believers, and they received the Holy Spirit.

When Simon saw this — that the Holy Spirit was given when the apostles placed their hands upon people’s heads — he offered money to buy this power.

“Let me have this power to,” he exclaimed, “so that when I lay my hands on people, they will receive the Holy Spirit.”

But Peter replied, “your money perish with you for thinking God’s gift can be bought! You can have no part in this, for your heart is not right before God. Turn from this great wickedness and pray. Perhaps God will yet forgive your evil thoughts — for I can see that there is jealousy and sin in your heart.”

“Pray for me,” Simon exclaimed, “that these terrible things won’t happen to me.”

After testifying in preaching and Samaria, Peter and John returned to Jerusalem, stopping at several Samaritan villages along the way to preach the good news to them to.

But as for fill up, an angel of the Lord said to him, “go over to the road that runs from Jerusalem through the Gaza desert, arriving around noon.” So he did, and who should be coming down the road but the treasurer of the Ethiopia, and Eunuch of great authority under Candace the Queen. He had gone to Jerusalem to worship at the temple, and was now returning in his chariot, reading aloud from the book of the prophet Isaiah.

The Holy Spirit said Philip, “go over and walk along beside the chariot!”

Philip ran over and heard what he was reading and asked, “do you understand it?”

“Of course not!” The man replied. “How can I when there is no one to instruct me!” And he begged Philip to come up into the chariot can sit with him.

The passage of scripture he had been reading from was this:

“He was led as a sheet to the slaughter, and as a lamb is silent before this shearers,, so he opened not his mouth;

“In his humiliation, justice was denied him; and who can express the wickedness of the people of his generation? For his life is taken from the earth.”

The Enoch asked Philip, “was Isaiah talking about himself or someone else?”

So Philip began with the same Scripture and then used many others to tell him about Jesus.

As they rode along, they came to a small pool of water, and the Enunch said “look — water! Why can’t I be baptized?”

“You can,” Philip answered, “if you believe with all your heart.”

In the Enunch replied, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God.”

He stopped the chariot, and then went down into the water and Philip baptized him. And when they came up out of the water, the spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, in the Enoch never saw him again, but when on his way rejoicing.

Meanwhile, Philip discovered himself at Azotus. He preached the good news there and in every city along the way, as he traveled to Caesaria

Sam’s response

In the Scripture verse of the day we see Paul’s vision restored by Ananias. Can you imagine being Ananias? What would your reaction have been had God asked you to go and pray for the worst criminal who had killed everybody you knew?

This was pretty much what Ananias was asked to do, because up till this time Paul, whose name was Saul, had actually been slaughtering all the Christians and throwing them into jail as well.

This is all that Ananias knew of then Saul. But God has Ananias to go to Saul and in the Scripture Ananias does question God about this man. But God confirms that this is who he wants Ananias to go see an Ananias does so without question.

It’s not that we never can question God because we can! It’s okay to have questions… it’s okay to question God… I think we all have questions but sometimes these questions will only be answered by following through with faith action based on the word of God or from a word from God. In this case it was a word from God that moved Ananias and sent him to be a messenger from God and restore Saul’s site. Who then became a new creation in Christ known as Paul.

Scripture verse of the day first Corinthians 14:1

let love be your greatest aim: nevertheless, also asked for the special abilities the Holy Spirit gives especially the gift of prophecy, being able to preach the messages of God.

Scripture reading of the day from the living Bible first Corinthians 13

if I had the gift of being able to speak in other languages without learning them, and could speak in every language there is in all of heaven and earth, but didn’t love others, I would simply be making a noise. If I had the gift of prophecy and knew all about what is going to happen in the future, knew everything about everything, but didn’t love others, what good would it do? Even if I had the gift of faith so that I could speak to a mountain and make it move, I would still be worth nothing at all without love. If I gave everything I have to the poor people, and I were burned alive for preaching the gospel, but didn’t love others, it would be of no value whatever.

Love is very patient and kind, never jealous or envious, never boastful or proud, never haughty or selfish or rude. Love does not demand its own way. It is not irriatable or touchy. It does not hold grudges and will hardly even notice when others do it wrong. It is never glad about injustice, but rejoices whenever truth winds its way. If you love someone you will be loyal to him no matter what the cost. You will always believe in him, always expect the best of him, and always stand your ground and defending him.

All the special gifts and powers from God will some day come to an end, but love goes on for ever. Someday prophecy, and speaking in unknown languages, and special knowledge — these gifts will disappear.

Now we know so little, even with our special gifts, and the inspired preaching of those most gifted is still so poor. But when we have made her perfect and complete, then the need for these inadequate special gifts will come to an end, and they will disappear.

It’s like this: when I was a child I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child does. But when I became a man my thoughts grew far beyond those of my childhood, and now I have put away childish things.

In the same way, we can see and understand only a little about God now, as if we were peering at his reflection in the poor Mirror; but someday we are going to see him in his completeness, face to face. Now all that I know is hazy and blurred, but then I will see everything clearly, just as clearly as God sees in the my heart right now.

There are three things that remain — faith, hope and love — and the greatest of these is love.

Sam’s response

The above Scriptures probably one of the most famous Scriptures in the Bible as it is used to just about every wedding There is.

The last line of Scripture In Corinthians 13 states that Their are three things that we are to have and remain in us.Faith,Hope, and love, and the greatest of these is love.

As a Christian and a person who is Working on becoming more like Christ there is no question that love is the overriding factor of all Scripture. To become more Christ like means to become more loving. Jesus would’ve never accomplished what he did without the love that he has for the father and for his people. God made the ultimate sacrifice for us based on love.He gave up his only son because he loved us so much.

It also says in the Bible that love conquers all. Do you believe that?

Sometimes we forget how much God really loves us, and when we forget it tends to rub off on how our love is displayed to others as well. If we are to be effective Christians and were going to have to be people who are loving others no matter what is going on around us. We must be people who stand above the noise of this world and the sin of this world and display love above all.

A major part of God’s plan is love. If we are to be part of God’s plan and we need to be people who love others as well. It’s easy to love somebody that is like us, but it is more difficult to love ones that annoy us irritate us.

People you love are going to disappoint you! What you do with it will be an indication of your love. Will you allow that love to overcome this injury towards yourself brought on by somebody else?

If we are to walk a path that is more Christ like and we need to allow this love to conquer all!
